On Thursday January 20 Red Hill opened its gates for the very first time to warmly welcome media and industry folk and officially launch the venue to market. Suffice to say it turned out to be a case of preaching to the converted and I couldn’t help but take delight in the many faces that suddenly transformed to a WTF expression as each person stepped over the hill and into the auditorium for the very first time.

CCPWA were there to provide Lighting and Rigging support for the opening.

8x Mac 2000 Wash , 16x Mac 301, 8x Mac 700 Profiles, 4x Atomic strobes with Scrollers and a Grand MA2 Fullsize trasnformed the new venue into a Kaleidoscope of colour over the limestone steps.

Lighting Operator Dean Gratwick operated both bands for the evening and has already fallen in love with Perth’s newest venue.

Below are few quotes from some of the guests from the night.

“The sound is excellent wherever you stand, and the sightlines are perfect. The lighting dapples the beautiful limestone terrace, painting the patrons into the scenery” Sharyn Romano – Faster Louder

“Red Hill has plenty of potential as a venue – the potential to offer large-scale live music events in a secluded and dedicated listening environment, and with the picturesque Perth city skyline as a backdrop, the potential to provide a gorgeous atmosphere for those events. I can’t wait to see what happens with Red Hill – it’s going to be very exciting” Adam Trainer, Music Director RTRfm

“We loaded out in record time… this venue is a roadies wet dream” Roadie Bob

“A technicians dream .. the way to a bands satisfaction is through their crew” Tim Bradsmith, Lighting and Design Guru.

“Red Hill is a truly remarkable location. From the load in to the effortless sightlines, this venue holds great potential to be one of Australia premier venues. A good artist and a well positioned PA will Rock at Hill” Jon Caisley, Phase One Audio.

“Red Hill Auditorium offers Perth music fans not only a new opportunity to see shows but a new viewing experience to boot. It goes between and most importantly beyond what we’re used to here in terms of live, outdoor music venues. I’m excited” Bob Gordon, Journalist

“I was hugely impressed by the scale of ambition of Red Hill. This is no small statement – Red Hill is a major addition to WA’s musical and artistic life, and will undoubtedly become a favorite with punters.” Julian Tompkin, Editor, Xpress Magazine.

Red Hill is now officially open for business.

Concert & Corporate Productions recently took delivery of the latest additions to their already substantial inventory.

A Grand MA 2 Full-size console is the new flagship console at CCP and has already made a big impact on the LDs that have got to use it.

The Full size MA2 is the first Full-size MA2 console to be available for hire in a production company in Australia.

CCPWA also took delivery of 12x Mac 2000 Wash fixtures, 8x Mac 301s and 18x Atomic strobes with Atomic Colours.

“We have been needing the 2K washes for ages with a high demand for a large washlight in the Perth market, we can now offer our clients both Mac 2K wash and spots for the first time locally in Perth” comments Sean McKernan CCPWA’s General Manager.

“The Mac 301 has become a workhorse for us and finds a place on most of our productions, the new 8 units takes us up to 16 units which still isn’t enough, we seem to be constantly subhiring 301’s to make up touring riders, they have become very popular. The Atomics and scrollers are invaluable and nearly every rider we get has them on so they have been very busy since they arrived”

The new additions made their debut on the on the annual Southbound Festival with the MA2 running the main stage and the 2K washes and Atomic colours beefing up the rigs on the main stage and the Bigtop.

All LD’s that got to use the MA2 commented on how easy it was to use and program, The Living End’s longtime LD Anthony Petruzio even commented “I love the power of the new effects engine that it will allow me to custom build effects and get exactly what I want from an effect, not just try and fumble around with inbuilt effects with varying results. Which is one of the main reason I’m considering swapping to MA2 for all my shows after more than 12 years on hog based consoles.” he plans to switch over to the MA2 this year for all his shows.

CCPWA’s MA2 and Macs have a full season ahead of them as summer really kicks into gear in Perth.
